Henry Evans is a husband, a father, a robotics pioneer, and a living example of resilience. Once a Silicon Valley executive, Henry’s life changed drastically overnight after a brain stem stroke left him mute and quadriplegic at just 40 years old. But instead of retreating from the world, he reimagined how to live in it-partnering with scientists, engineers, and technologists to regain a voice through robotics, eye tracking software, and assistive communication tools. Through the support of his family and his loving wife Jane, his story is one of innovation, courage, and unwavering determination.
Using small head movements and blinks, Henry controls devices that allow him to interact with the world-shaving, scratching, flying drones, and even communicating in real time. As seen in his TED Talk and Stanford Magazine, Henry has become a global advocate for how technology can restore autonomy and connection for those with disabilities. Henry Evans is proof that the human spirit can find expression in even the most unexpected ways.
HENRY AND JANE EVANS
In 2019 Henry’s path crossed with Nick Tayler, a gifted country singer from Tennessee now living in rural Florida. Born deaf in his right ear, Nick turned his limitation into a gift. His powerful, soulful voice and deep faith make every song a genuine expression of home, heart, and hope.
Their meeting was as unexpected as their friendship: It all started with Henry posting a Craigslist Ad looking for a co-writer. Nick was working as a meat cutter at Publix, writing and playing shows on his days off. Henry, living across the country in California, was communicating through assistive technology.
According to Henry, over 30 people responded to the Ad, but only Nick had the talent, perseverance, and attitude to make something of the lyrics. Henry often jokes: “You’d never guess a quadriplegic and a Publix meat cutter would end up writing country songs together.”
But that’s exactly what happened—and from this unlikely beginning grew a creative partnership that defies boundaries.
Their music is more than sound-it’s testimony. Henry painstakingly writes each lyric, blink by blink, filled with meaning drawn from his lived experience. Nick with his rich and soulful voice, breathes life into those words with heartfelt melodies and conviction. Together they polish every line, fine-tune every verse, and produce songs that speak to struggle, redemption, hometown, and the beauty of grace.
From living rooms and digital studio sessions, Nick and Henry work across time zones and physical boundaries. Their partnership isn’t just unlike;y, it’s extraordinary. They share a calling to turn adversity into art and proclaim that limitations do not define your destiny.
While Nick and Henry are at the heart of the music, they’ve been fortunate to have an incredible circle of family and friends who’ve helped bring the songs to life.
Jane Evans (Henry’s wife), Michael Evans (Henry’s son), and Bleau Oney (Nick’s cousin) have all contributed their talents along the way — from background and harmony vocals to songwriting, instrumentation, and production. Nick’s sister, Chelsey Bedwell, and his mother, Vicki Lynn Oney, have also played an important role, offering countless hours of honest critique, encouragement, and collaboration that have shaped the sound and spirit of the music.
Every song is more than just lyrics and chords — it’s the result of a true family effort, built on support, creativity, and a shared love for the music.
The team also includes John Johnson of Tune Designer, whose expertise in instrumentation and production has been invaluable. John has not only helped shape the sound but also served as the voice of Hank Weston, Henry Evans’ stage name.
Their debut collaboration, “Measure of a Man”, embodies the soul of their partnership—authentic, heartfelt, and deeply human. Henry’s poignant lyrics, paired with Nick’s rich, expressive voice and stirring melodies, create a listening experience that resonates long after the last note. Listen to the song that started it all—and discover why their music continues to inspire.
Their songs haven’t just moved listeners—they’ve earned recognition. Nick and Henry’s collaborative work on “Keep It Hometown” (Nick Tayler), Never Drink Alone” (Hank Weston feat. Nick Tayler), and Henry’s work on “Worth Her Weight in Whiskey” (Hank Weston), won them a finalist position in the Great American Song Contest, proving that when heart meets talent, the industry takes notice. This award is a testament to the strength of their partnership, and the impact of two voices—one sung, one blinked—working in perfect harmony.
“Twenty-two years ago, Silicon Valley executive Henry Evans had a massive stroke that left him mute and paralyzed from the neck down. But that didn’t prevent him from becoming a leading advocate of adaptive robotic tech to help disabled people – or from writing country songs, one letter at a time. Correspondent John Blackstone talks with Evans about his upbeat attitude and unlikely pursuits.” – CBS SUNDAY MORNING
Henry’s collaborative partner, Nick Tayler, who himself has overcome obstacles in his career as a musician with SSD (single-sided-deafness), communicates with Henry from across the country through assistive technology and the help of Henry’s devoted wife Jane. Together, Evans and Tayler have shown how resilience, technology, and artistry can intersect—proving that even the greatest limitations can’t silence a voice determined to be heard.
